Students in this program will learn everything they need to know about criminal law, police ethics, and community policing in the context of all subjects. Most SAPS apprenticeships include a period of academic training as well as a period of on-the-job training.
SAPS training available
There are a few different companies in this industry, offering a variety of areas.
The South African Police Service may include the following:
•Traffic police
• Police regulations
• Equestrian unit
• Crime prevention
• The canine unit
SAP Requirements:
-Candidates from 18 to 35 years old.
-Candidates should include a detailed CV with contact details, references and any information they deem relevant to their application.
-Also enclose certified true copies of all certificates, identity documents and proof of address dated less than three months.
-Applicants must be South African citizens and permanent residents.
Applicants will also need to have/provide the following:
• Grade 12 matrix/certificate
•Candidates must be in good physical and mental shape.
• English, read, written and spoken
• Applicants must not have a criminal record
•Computer knowledge
• Applicants must have a valid B code driver’s license
• Be motivated and work in a team
• Candidates should have strong liaison skills
• Applicants must have leadership skills
Do candidates have to be prepared to take an oath? as determined by the municipality concerned at the end of their apprenticeship period. Flexibility with a commitment to learn, but also a willingness to work. Candidates must be able to handle pressure, be trustworthy and honest, with a positive attitude.
Shortlisted candidates may be required to take the following tests:
• Proof of English proficiency
•A fitness test, including running? Men 1.5 miles in 11 minutes? Women 2.4 km in 2.30 p.m.
• A medical examination
• Provide a medical certificate indicating that the candidates can participate in vigorous exercises (physical examination)
•Obstacle course? Do men have to finish in 3 minutes? The females in 4 minutes
• Training in the use of firearms? practical and theoretical
Applicants must be prepared to deploy anywhere in their province or department. Applicants must be willing to complete the required periods of physical/abnormal training without compensation. Candidates must complete all training required by the department.
SAPS app
SAPS online application processes are not available. Applications should be picked up at SAPS department offices in your region or province. All application forms submitted by fax or electronically will be rejected. Incomplete or missing signature forms or documents will be rejected.
