Applicants who already have another teaching degree are not eligible for the Funza Lushaka bursary.
Employees of the higher education institution and members of their immediate family are not accepted.
Candidates who, for whatever reason, have a criminal record, are accused of misconduct, or are terminated are not qualified.

Application for Funza Lushaka bursary
The application for the Funza Lushaka bursary is done online only. This means that paper documents are not accepted in the application process.
The applicant should print the completed online application forms. It is essential and you should not take any risks. Simply print the application electronically once completed.
Types of qualification for the Funza Lushaka bursary
There are two types of Funza Lushaka bursary. These are undergraduate and graduate studies.
Undergraduate studies: covers a 4-year Bachelor of Education (B Ed), specializing in basic phase (grade R – 3), intermediate phase (grade 4 – 6), upper phase (grade 7 – 9) and the FET Phase (Grades 10-12).
Graduate Studies: This covers a one-year Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). Combined qualifications are also acceptable, such as the combined specialization in the basic phase (grade R – 3) and the intermediate phase (grade 4 – 6), or the intermediate phase and the upper phase, or the upper phase (grade 7 – 9) and the FET phase (10th – 12th degree).
However, there are also priority areas in qualifications. These are also;

Bursary and eligibility conditions
Here are the requirements and what makes applicants eligible for the Funza Lushaka bursary. With that, we have categorized them for simplicity and ease of understanding. So, let’s see them below.
Requirements and eligibility for the Funza Lushaka General bursary
1.South African citizens.
2.Applicants who wish to obtain a teaching diploma or who wish to become a teacher (graduate certificate in education and who have already been admitted to an accredited public university.
3.Applicants who wish to change careers and become a teacher, demonstrate dedication and passion for a professional teaching career, demonstrate an interest in working with young people, are ready to face and manage difficult challenges and demonstrate of personal integrity.
4.Applicants must have a good academic performance.
5.Spouses and children of applicants for employment of employees of higher education establishments are not eligible.
6.Two of the subjects in the priority area must be included as a specialty in the teaching qualification.
First Time entries
These requirements apply to applicants who are applying for the Funza Lushaka bursary program for the first time.
1.Applicants must present proof of successful admission to baccalaureate studies at the Matric / Grade 12 level.
2.Applicants must have a minimum score of Level 4 at the Matric level in the subject in which the candidate will be majoring.
3.Applicants must be successful in math or math at the grade 12 level and a minimum of level 4 in the native language, for students intending to specialize in the basic phase.
4.Applicants must have an average of at least 50% for students who completed their studies before 2008 when math was not required.
5.Applicants must have at least a level 4 passage in mathematics, for students 6.who wish to specialize in teaching technological subjects, including CAT, and who do not have these subjects at the matrix level.
New candidates already students
These requirements are specifically for applicants who wish to apply for the Funza Lushaka bursary program but are already in university.
1.Applicants must successfully complete all modules studied in the last / final year of study at the higher education institution
2.Applicants must have a minimum average of 55% in all modules studied in the last / most recent year of study at a higher education institution
3.Applicants must have an average of at least 55% in the studied modules relevant to the teaching specialization of the priority area during the last / final year of study at the university.
Candidates who register for the PGCE
These requirements are for applicants applying for the Funza Lushakea bursary Program and applying for the Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)
1.Applicants must have successfully completed a recognized diploma to be admitted to a PGCE
2.Applicants must be graduates in Psychology and African Language for a PGCE in Basic Phase Teaching
3.Applicants must have at least two (2) recognized priority subjects at the second year level
4.Applicants must have adequate modules in recognized priority subjects.
Requirements for current fellows
These are the conditions that applicants who wish to enroll in the Funza Lushaka bursary program must meet.
1.Fellows must pass at least two-thirds or 66.6% of all subject modules studied in the last / most recent year of study at the university.
2.Existing bursary holders must pass at least two-thirds or 66.6% of the priority subject modules studied in the last / most recent year of study at the higher education institution.
3.Fellows must pass the priority subject
4.Applicants who are already bursary recipients must move on to the next level / year
5.Existing bursary holders must achieve at least 50% average in all subject modules.

You need to apply for admission to a coaching qualifications (B.Ed or PGCE) or a Bachelors diploma (E.G, BSC, B Tech & BA) with at least one direction in a voncern area at a university of your choice.
